  • Fox demands inquiry into the Iraq War - 17th December 2008
Liam FoxLiam Fox, the Shadow Defence Secretary, has challenged Gordon Brown to hold a full, independent inquiry into the origins of the Iraq War after the Prime Minister announced British troops will leave the country in July 2009.

With 4,100 troops in Basra now preparing to return home, Liam said there was "no excuse" not to set up an inquiry.

And he stressed, "We need to learn the lessons from Iraq so that we do no repeat the mistakes in places such as Afghanistan."

Gordon Brown's announcement flies in the face of Government policy, which was always against a published timetable for withdrawal because of the increased risk to our forces.
